Decrease in Imports of Mackerel, Pollack, Horse Mackerel, and Squid

The amount of fishery products imported by April 2024 is 318,1955 tons, which is a 13.9% decrease compared to the same amount of the previous year (370,237 tons). The import amount by April 2024 is USD 1,318.04 million, which is USD 1,318.04 million in 2023. Compared to $1,731.08 million, it fell 23.9%.

As of April, the 10 most imported fish species were frozen pollack, frozen mackerel, frozen monkfish, frozen octopus, frozen squid, frozen herring, live clam, frozen octopus, frozen octopus, frozen squid fin, and frozen pollack roe.

Frozen pollack accounted for 19.4% of total imports, frozen mackerel 7.5%, frozen monkfish 5.4%, frozen octopus 2.74%, and frozen squid 2.71%.

Imports of mackerel, herring, squid, octopus, and pollack, including frozen pollack, decreased, while imports of monkfish, octopus, and live clams increased.

The fish species whose import volume decreased the most was frozen herring, which was imported at 8,233 tons, a 38% decrease from the 13,329 tons in 2023, and frozen giant squid fin, which was imported at 6,313 tons, showing a 24% decrease compared to 8,268 tons in the same period last year.

Frozen mackerel decreased by 15%, frozen octopus decreased by 8%, frozen pollack decreased by 6%, and frozen pollack decreased by 7%.

Fish species whose imports increased were frozen monkfish, which increased 31% to 17,176 tons, live clams, which increased 11% to 7,367 tons, and frozen octopus, which increased 18% to 8,724 tons.

Looking at the import price by fish species, frozen pollack is USD 0.96/kg, frozen mackerel is USD 2.25/kg, frozen herring is USD 0.91/kg, frozen squid fin is USD 1.76/kg, frozen monkfish is USD 1.96/kg, and frozen pollack is USD 1.96/kg. USD 2.36/kg and frozen octopus were priced at USD 6.33/kg.

The average import price of seafood as of April 2024 was USD 4.13/kg, down 11.7% from USD 4.68/kg in the same period of 2023.
